CHANDIGARH: Details of electricity bills, water bills and status of vehicles' sticker challans would soon be known through SMS alerts.
People would need to send SMSs to a predefined number provided by the administration and would get the relevant results through the same medium. An official from department of Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC), Anil Prashar, said such public services would begin in one-and-a-half months.

"We have sought expressions of
interest from concerned IT and telecom companies," he said.
Initially, only three services would be covered by the e-governance programme and public utility services would be available later, the official said. Prashar said, "The move is sure to benefit those who have either misplaced the original bills or are forced to make rounds of offices or sampark centres."
